Yes indeed it is the big day itself but it is also Sunday so there is church. Rev. Gail Tapscott will be on hand to facilitate what may be a small but mighty gathering where we will hear stories, listen to some seasonal music, join in a guided meditation and revel in each other's company. Some seasonal drinks and goodies will also be on hand.

We invite all -- youngest to oldest, visiting guests and favorite neighbors -- to join in! We will sing the familiar songs of the season, read words from historic texts, share traditional Lovefeast buns and warm cider, and hold aloft our candles at the conclusion of the service. Our offertory will be shared with UNICEF Ukraine.
All are welcome at this multi-generational gathering, which is our own adaptation of the traditional Moravian Lovefeast. The simple Lovefeast service is focused upon love of humankind: a communal meal shared with love. Music and readings are offered to support reflection on the meanings of this season of the year. The distinctive feature of the gathering is the meal of sweet rolls and cider that is served to the congregation, and all hold lighted candles of hope and joy to close the service. Within the Christian tradition it has been noted that the Lovefeast is not a substitute for the Christian sacrament of communion, rather it is a simple meal, shared in fellowship. Many Unitarian Universalist congregations celebrate with Lovefeasts at this time of year. Do we celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, ChristmaHanuKwanzaakah, Festivus for the Rest of Us? This service explores the major role nineteenth century Unitarians had in reshaping our modern celebration of Christmas. You may be surprised.

Finding the Silver Lining in Unforeseen Change - Alex Vergara - Sunday, November 27, 202212/19/2022 After an exhausting and traumatic deportation from the United States, Alex Vergara was forced to abandon everything he knew and everyone he loved for the second time in his life. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. Transgender Day of Remembrance (#TDOR) is an annual observance, officially recognized on November 20th, but UUCO we will be observing Sunday, November 13th as the day to honor the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Sarah Schnaithman, who herself identifies as a transgender female, will lead us in a memorial service to honor those who have been murdered for being who they are. All are welcome and invited to be in community, as we take a moment, a moment which is sure to cause us to reflect on our commitment and our call to social justice as Unitarian Universalists. BIO: Sarah Schnaithman serves as the Sunday Services Trustee at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford. Professionally, Sarah is a general practice, bilingual attorney, with her own firm located in Amory, Mississippi. She lives with her wife, Reyna, and two dogs which adopted them, Mama Dog & Dude, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. UUCO is a welcoming congregation and we invite you to join us on Sunday for services at 11.
