In 1993, an informal meditation group started became the genesis of a new church in Oxford, Mississippi: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford (UUCO). A number of families joined in, and for several years the congregation held services in the University of Mississippi Student Union. In April of 1997, this informal group affiliated with the national Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations and the Mid-South District of the UUA.
In 2001, UUCO purchased land and an old church building at 31 County Road 198. After extensive renovations, the Congregation began holding services at UU Hall in the fall of 2003. At present, the Congregation has over 90 members and many friends. |
