UUCO Children and Youth

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford offers Religious Education for children and youth throughout the academic year with childcare available for younger children year-round. Together, we cultivate curiosity and responsible truth-seeking in a caring, intergenerational community.
Most services include a Story for All Ages, after which children are dismissed for Religious Education with our adult instructors and youth childcare providers. Other services are intergenerational and some are even planned and led by our young people. Children and infants are always welcome to stay with their grown-ups during the service, too! Highlights of our year in RE include our annual Halloween Carnival, our Stone Soup Service, and the Flower Ceremony with Grown-Up Easter Egg Hunt.
Our youth meet once monthly starting in fall for thoughtful discussion and socializing. Past events have included bonfires, participation in the annual Pride Parade, potluck dinners, hosting the Halloween Carnival for younger children, and table-top game nights.
At UUCO, we use curricula provided by the Unitarian Universalist Association. The curricula starts in fall and continues into spring, led by our trained volunteers. Summer childcare includes a combination of themed story-telling, crafting, and outdoor activities.

The goals of our Religious Education Program are for children to:
- Discover themselves and their beliefs in relation to a variety of perspectives and belief systems, in the process developing religious literacy.
- Engage in acts of nurture and change-making as they work to build a peaceful, just world.
- Demonstrate an awareness of their location and their responsibility within the interdependent web of life on earth.
- Have fun!
