Every year, as a new academic year begins, we welcome newcomers to our midst, as well as returning members, with a water communion ceremony. Our children and youth are invited to participate in this inter-generational service. You do not need to bring water. This service reminds us that ours is a shared faith where all find acceptance. Those interested in joining our congregation will also be invited to formally sign the membership book! Join us on Sunday, August 30, to share in this special unity service as together we begin a new academic year. Mari and Roger Kuhnle will be service leaders. Cris Surbeck will be the speaker and special music will be provided by the UUCO Chorus.

Edie Love will explore this question, speaking about the emerging movement around Black Lives Matter, and what she thinks our faith demands of us as a response. Edie Love is a candidate for UU ministry and a 5th year seminary student from Memphis. She is currently planning her internship for this fall, endeavoring to improve the lives of those experiencing homelessness. Kate Lechler will be our speaker this Sunday and Katelynn Dillard will be the Service Leader. Prayer is a meaningful practice that most religions across the world take part in; it can be public and communal, or private and deeply personal. What is its place in the life of a Unitarian Universalist? Kate will examine some of these traditions in tandem with her own personal practice, trying to get at a deeper understanding of the purpose of prayer.
