 In many of our ancestral traditions, this time of the year is used to honor and remember friends and family that have passed and the harvest of the year. Greg Johnson and Shaundi Wall honor these traditions and lead an intergenerational and interactive service in which attendees are encouraged to bring mementos and share stories of those they wish to pay homage.

 Our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee -- UUSC -- is our UU human rights organization, powered by grassroots collaborations. One of our most inspiring and effective UU enterprises, UUSC fosters social justice and works toward a world free from oppression in dozens of countries around the world. Its innovative approaches are grounded in the belief that all people have inherent dignity and rights.
Brad Korb, our speaker, is an Alabama Unitarian Universalist who has been a volunteer leader for UUSC for over a decade. He has many experiences and inspirations to share, along with the deep meaning and opportunities of the 'Guest at Your Table' program. Each year UUSC invites all UU congregations to participate in its 'Guest at Your Table' Program -- and this morning's service will introduce this opportunity for our congregation as a way of supporting care and justice around the globe through UUSC. Eunice Benton, Service Leader  Rhonda Thomason, a longtime Unitarian Universalist who calls Montgomery, Alabama home, supports laws, policies, beliefs, and practices that remove impediments to prosperity-especially for GLBTQ youth. Working for over a decade with educators and community groups across the nation through Southern Poverty Law Center and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Rhonda shares her experiences to inform and inspire us to action.
What are the messages of our faith groups? How do those messages influence the safety and affirmation of our children and families? Do our values and actions support transformation and wholeness?  Please join us in celebration of the web of life -- in our annual "Blessing of the Animals" our speaker will be Natascha Techen, who runs our local Nine Lives Rescue. Please be mindful, if you plan to bring a vibrant and alive creature companion to this service that you do so with utmost responsibility, love and care. Let us take any actions needed to create a comfortable and respectful space for all who gather on Sunday. Pictures or other keepsakes are also ways to represent your special companion at this service and we will set up an outdoor space to recognize those shared items. |
