Dr. Mary Thurlkill will be our speaker and she will share from her studies of pilgrimage as an intentional process of being part of a religious tradition. She is interested in understanding 'why' Christians and Muslims travel to holy spaces, what 'makes' it holy, what happens during the pilgrimage. Her recent travels have taken her to Loreto, Italy-- where the "Holy House" is located (a medieval tradition describes how Jesus/Mary/Joseph's house flew from Nazareth to Italy in the 12th century ) where she interviewed pilgrims about their experiences/beliefs and how they think about pilgrimage.
