Speaker: Jaime Harker
Debates about queer inclusion are causing major rifts in a number of denominations, and many faith traditions are considering what including queer and trans people in the church looks like. Using the early history of the Metropolitan Community Church, the first explicitly gay Christian denomination in the United States, I look beyond the notion of inclusion to consider what happens if we place queer and trans folks at the very heart of our spiritual traditions. How do radical reimaginations of the connection of sexuality and spirituality liberate all of us from the shame and repression of many of our inherited traditions? What happens when gay church is THE church?
