Our visiting speaker on Jan 23, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, is Sunna I. Savani. Sunna is a long time activist who as a medical student has started a chapter of Future Doctors in Politics. The mission of Future Doctors in Politics is this: “Empowering future doctors with the mindset and skillset to be agents of political and structural change that centers the patients + communities we serve.” Sunna is also active providing care through the Jackson Free Clinic and is a regular Pink House Volunteer. The Pink House is the Jackson Women’s Health Organization and is the sole location for women seeking abortion in Mississippi. In short, Sunna is not only offering care through the Jackson Free Clinic, she is actively seeking to understand and address the systemic issues that make reproductive choices difficult, especially for women of color.
