Deck the Halls

Every year, we deck the halls with a special service at UUCO. This intergenerational service will combine creativity and reflection as we find our way together, following the ancient stars of hope, faith, and wonder. Be sure to stay after the service to help decorate the sanctuary and enjoy festive snacks!

At the Kitchen Table

Native American Poet Laureate, Joy Harjo wrote, "Life begins at the kitchen table." And at the kitchen table, we gather with family or friends or alone, to make meaning of our lives. Gathering around the table can be fraught with conversations drifting towards taboo topics, expectations, or judgements. Thanksgiving is a complicated holiday for so many reasons. But if we can brave the wilderness of our souls, with courage, with conviction, we may just find ourselves at the kitchen table of understanding. There will be a Christmas Parade planning meeting held after our normal service.

Abundance Anxiety: Reflecting on the Ebb and Flow

The harvest season and holidays mean for many an abundance: family, friends, food, presents, and events. But how do we manage it when it feels like an overabundance? And what about when it feels like we're lacking? How can we gird ourselves for the inevitable peaks and valleys in the months ahead of us? Reflecting on these challenges may also hold insights for the greater patterns of our lives.

James Bowker runs Fudgetown Farm, a small, regenerative vegetable and flower farm just south of Oxford. Previously, he worked on humanitarian and development issues in the Middle East.
