Putting Women in the Center of the Story
Speaker: Frances Kneupper
November 3, 2024 - 10:30 AM

Join us this Sunday as Frances Kneupper talks about the recent conference she organized on prophetic women from a global perspective. She will share with us what she learned about the history of women and spirituality, and the ways that they have been mischaracterized or silenced.

Monsters: All Souls & The Invisible Man
Speaker: Rev. Sarah Osborne
October 20, 2024 - 10:30 AM

We will look at the importance of visibility and the dangers of silence, and we will celebrate the courage and wisdom of our ancestors. Be sure to bring a picture or memento for our ancestors’ altar so we can honor them in the service. And wear your favorite Halloween gear! Linger after the service for pumpkin decorating, fall treats, and hot cider.

Why We Need Monsters
Speaker Dr. Andy Pfrenger
October 20, 2024 - 10:30 AM

Dr. Andy Pfrenger is the Director of the Inter- and Multi-disciplinary Studies degree programs at the University of Mississippi. He is also a medievalist who specializes in early medieval England and Scandinavia. This Sunday at 10:30 AM, he will explore the role of monsters in literature as invitations to explore uncomfortable topics like grief, sorrow, and inexplicable loss. Even the simplest monster stories can provide a safe, if unnerving, space where we learn to navigate life's disruptions and find meaning in the cycle of joy and sorrow, light and dark.

Deep Listening as Love and as Spiritual Practice
Speaker Rev. Gail Stratton
October 13, 2024 - 10:30 AM

A wise person said that “being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person they are almost indistinguishable.” Yet, as we grow up, where and how do we learn to listen? Where and how do we learn what it is to be heard?  As we place love at the center of our values, we will explore a powerful form of worship, the Quaker practice of sitting in silence with each other for a portion of the service, listening to ourselves and to the spirit of love.  The service will be led by Rev. Gail Stratton.

Cynicism, Skepticism, and Taking a Leap
Speaker Michelle Mauthe Harvey
October 6, 2024

Mark Twain is credited with saying, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” In politically-fraught times, it can be especially easy to label people – or find ourselves labeled – less kindly than might be desirable. What if we’re wrong? Don’t jump to confusions! Join us Sunday to learn why this can happen, with options for living our values with moral courage.
