Minister's Musings March 2026

The two trees bend toward each other just outside the lodge.
They form a threshold to their siblings further down the path.
This threshold of trees beckons us toward them, to each other.
I invited my beloveds to stand with me at this intersection, this convergence of
Magic and mundane.
Here at the threshold, we smile and close our eyes
To listen to the wind dance with the leaves.
The trees clapped for us,*
Sending us forward with joy and with peace. ~Sarah Osborne

I never thought of myself as a writer or poet; perhaps I could claim sermonizer? But after attending a workshop with renowned poet Naomi Shihab Nye, I began to trust my voice, my creativity, and my story. I think we all have poetry in us, words that tickle our fancy and make us want to write love poems to them. Some poems are observations, a little vignette into the peculiarities of life. A few are prophetic and profound. Others might be silly or absurd. We all have stories within us longing to be told. What poetry is ready to burst forth from you? Pay attention to the whispers of the trees and wind-they are cheering you on, they want to hear your story and so do I.

I’m swapping a Sunday in March. I’ll be here on the 5th Sunday instead of the 4th Sunday because I’m going to be presenting a workshop at the SOUUL Summit Conference in Atlanta on March 22. I hope you’ll join me on March 29th for a special service celebrating the wonders of poetry and story. I invite you to bring something you’ve written to share with the congregation.

With love at the center,
Rev. Sarah
