In our covenant with others who form the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford, we are grateful to come together to create and promote a community of religious freedom that can be a beacon of light for others. Individuals and families of all size, shapes and ages will find a loving supportive community with the simple goal of becoming our best self through inner reflection and outward action. In accordance with Unitarian Universalist principles, members of UUCO are a diverse group, bonded by our belief in religious tolerance, our quest for spiritual growth, and our desire to work for a better world. Our History |
In 1993, an informal meditation group started became the genesis of a new church in Oxford, Mississippi: The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford (UUCO). A number of families joined in, and for several years the congregation held services in the University of Mississippi Student Union. In April of 1997, this informal group affiliated with the national Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations and the Mid-South District of the UUA.
In 2001, UUCO purchased land and an old church building at 31 County Road 198. After extensive renovations, the Congregation began holding services at UU Hall in the fall of 2003. At present, the Congregation has over 90 members and many friends. |
